The Road to the Reformation

The Road to the Reformation

As Christians, we understand that history does not happen in a vacuum of human autonomy. As God works His plan of redemption in and through humanity, He sovereignly weaves events and lives together across time and space to bring His purposes to bear. The road to the Reformation of the sixteenth century is a powerful example of this biblical truth. While much attention is rightly given to the Reformers’ fight for biblical doctrine and practice that eventually led to the necessary split from the Roman Catholic Church, there is also much to learn from the pre-Reformation era. God raised up key individuals long before the Reformation began—men who forged the path leading to this all-important seismic shift in church history. On October 22–23, 2021, Dr. Steve Lawson joined us to unpack the lives of three of these individuals—John Wycliffe, Jan Hus, and Martin Luther—drawing lessons from the way that they were used by God to move history forward.
